- Company also appears on local Deloitte & Touche "Atlanta Technology 50" ranking for second consecutive year -

ATLANTA (October 30, 2002)  -  Witness Systems (NASDAQ: WITS), a leading
global provider of performance optimization software and services, today
announced it has been named to the Deloitte & Touche "Technology Fast 500,"
a ranking of the 500 fastest growing technology companies in North America.
Rankings were based on percentage revenue growth over a five-year period
from 1997-2001.  Witness Systems' ranking of number 375 represents the
company's second consecutive appearance to the Technology Fast 500.

"Making the Deloitte & Touche Technology Fast 500 is a testament to a
company's leadership, commitment to technology, and ability to deliver the
right solution at the right time, said Mark A. Evans, managing director,
Deloitte & Touche Technology, Media & Telecommunications Group.  "With its
899 percent growth rate over five years, Witness Systems has proven that its
leadership has the vision and determination to succeed, and we at Deloitte &
Touche salute its accomplishments."

Dave Gould, president and CEO of Witness Systems, credits the company's
expansion over the past five years to its market leadership position, solid
financial resources and global expansion.  He also attributes the technology
innovation of Witness Systems' eQuality® software suite and the company's
expanding worldwide customer base as key success factors.  Whether a company
is implementing eQuality for the first time or expanding the software's use
into new contact center sites, organizations continue to experience
significant, tangible benefits and rapid returns on their investments.

In addition to appearing on the Deloitte & Touche Technology Fast 500,
Witness Systems also was named to the Deloitte & Touche "Atlanta Technology
50," a ranking of the top 50 revenue producing technology firms in
metro-Atlanta.  Witness Systems, ranked number 31, also appeared on the list
in 2001.
