Leading IT and Contact Center Experts Recognize Witness Systems for Technology Leadership, Innovation and Growth

Company and eQuality Software Suite Receive Top Industry Awards

ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 1, 2002-- Witness Systems (NASDAQ: WITS - News), a leading global provider of performance optimization software and services, today announced that it has been named to Software Magazine's "Software 500" for the fourth consecutive year and VARBusiness Magazine's "VARBusiness 500" for the second year in a row.

In addition, Witness Systems' eQuality® software has been recognized with technology honors that include a "CRM Excellence 2002 Award" from Customer Inter@ction Solutions magazine and a "TMC Labs Innovation Award" from Technology Marketing Corporation. Company President and CEO Dave Gould was also recently named one of Atlanta's "Top 50 Entrepreneurs" by Catalyst magazine.

"Software 500" Ranking Demonstrates Market Stability

Witness Systems was named Number 252 on Software Magazine's "20th Annual Ranking of the World's Largest Software and Services Suppliers" - the 2002 "Software 500." This marks the company's fourth consecutive appearance to the prestigious listing. Examining the growth and trends of worldwide software and service providers, both public and privately held, the Software 500 provides a comprehensive look at the enterprise software landscape that develops and markets business software/services for a wide variety of industries. The ranking is based on total worldwide software and services revenue for 2001, which includes companies' license, maintenance and support, training, and software-related services and consulting revenue. In announcing this year's ranking, the publication denoted that while IT spending was low overall, there were many companies that performed well, providing focused product offerings and achieving quick return on investment (ROI) for their customers.

"VARBusiness 500" Ranking Recognizes Leadership Among North American Solution Providers

VARBusiness Magazine has named Witness Systems to its "VARBusiness 500" ranking, an annual listing of "The Industry's Leading Solution Providers." Making its second consecutive appearance to the list, Witness Systems rose to number 325 this year, a jump from its position at number 457 in 2001. The listing marks the publication's 14th annual ranking of the largest solution providers, consultants, integrators and service companies in North America. Finalists were ranked according to their fiscal year 2001 revenues.

"CRM Excellence 2002 Award" Spotlights Technology Innovation

Witness Systems' eQuality software suite was named a winner for the second consecutive year in Customer Inter@ction Solutions magazine's annual "CRM Excellence Awards," which recognize companies that "offer the best and brightest CRM products and services" on the market. The publication selected its winners based on tangible results, benefits and ROI detailing how technology solutions are helping companies meet their business and customer-focused goals. As part of the award write-up, Witness Systems' eQuality suite was cited by a leading airline carrier as providing great value through increased quality scores, first-call resolution, partner transfer programs and e-ticket sales, as well as decreased talk time, improved productivity and streamlining of new technology deployments. The profile was included in the magazine's August 2002 issue.

"TMC Labs Innovation Award" Highlights Industry-Leading Organizations

In the third annual "TMC Labs Innovation Awards," Witness Systems' eQuality suite was named one of only 23 winning technologies by Technology Marketing Corporation. According to TMC, "judges chose only a few select products that are considered truly innovative for the contact center market." The honors were designed to recognize the most innovative products within the customer interaction space, including those technology solutions that help carve a new market niche or start a trend. Other consideration was based on solutions with unique features and functionality, as well as products that will improve customer service and lead to a bottom-line ROI. Entries were judged by TMC Labs engineers - who have expertise and extensive knowledge of the communications, Internet telephony and call center industries - and winners were named after products were extensively researched and customer references were checked. eQuality and the other winning technologies are profiled in the September 2002 issue of Customer Inter@ction Solutions magazine.
