SupportSoft Names New VP of Finance and Promotes Former VP of Finance to General Manager of Managed Service Providers (email this article)

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Sept. 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- SupportSoft (Company Profile, Past Stories, Case Studies), Inc. (Nasdaq: SPRT - News), a leading provider of service and support automation software, today announced that Joseph D. McCarthy has joined the Company as vice president of finance.

Mr. McCarthy's responsibilities include direction for SupportSoft's global accounting functions, and management of the Company's financial planning and operations. He will report directly to Brian Beattie, chief financial officer of SupportSoft.

With Mr. McCarthy joining SupportSoft, the Company also announced that Mark Vranesh, formerly vice president of finance and corporate controller, has been promoted to general manager of managed service providers. Mr. Vranesh will lead SupportSoft's efforts to broaden its software adoption through indirect customer and partner outsourcing channels, worldwide. He will report to John Van Siclen, senior vice president of worldwide field operations for SupportSoft.

Mr. McCarthy brings over 16 years of experience within high growth technology companies, both public and private, to his new position at SupportSoft. Most recently, Mr. McCarthy led finance efforts at Kana Software as vice president of finance. Mr. McCarthy's prior software company experience includes senior financial positions at Reasoning, Rational Software and Pure Atria. Mr. McCarthy holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from The University of Notre Dame.

Mr. Vranesh joined SupportSoft in October of 1998 as director of finance and corporate controller. Mr. Vranesh was appointed to vice president of finance in 2001. Before joining SupportSoft, Mr. Vranesh was a senior manager in the Palo Alto software technology group of Ernst & Young LLP. Mr. Vranesh holds a Bachelor of Science degree from California Polytechnic University at San Luis Obispo.
