REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Aug. 29 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- SupportSoft (Company Profile, Past Stories, Case Studies), Inc. (Nasdaq: SPRT - News), a leading provider of Real-Time Service Management (RTSM(TM)) software, today announced that its Service Automation Suite(TM) for Broadband has been localized for the Japanese market. The Service Automation Suite for Broadband is designed to help digital service providers deliver real-time self-service and assisted service to their broadband customers. Additionally, SupportSoft SmartAccess(TM) software has also been internationalized for easier customization by Japanese service providers if needed.

SupportSoft Service Automation Suite for Broadband provides for ongoing, automated resolution of customer service issues related to use of the customer's broadband connection. SupportSoft SmartAccess software enables broadband customers to automatically determine if their computing system qualifies for a high-speed connection and, if so, speeds connectivity by allowing for automated self-installation.

Broadband growth in Japan has picked up rapidly due to the government's adoption of deregulation policies in the telecommunications industry(1); Japan is now ranked second in the world in the number of broadband users(2). Analyst and consulting firm Ovum predicts that the broadband adoption rate in Japan for both cable and DSL high-speed connections will grow 66% to over 30 million users by 2008(3).

SupportSoft's broadband service automation software is already accessible to more than 20 million broadband customers worldwide, including 6 of the top 8 North American digital service providers.

"The internationalization of the Service Automation Suite for Broadband and SmartAccess software solutions for Japanese use underscores our commitment to growing SupportSoft's market presence among digital service providers in the Asia-Pacific region," said Radha Basu, chairman and CEO of SupportSoft. "Japan's tradition as an early adopter of new technologies continues in its use of broadband delivery. But like their peers with which we work around the world, Japanese service providers remain challenged to maintain profitability while keeping pace with customer demand. SupportSoft's family of service automation solutions can not only help in making broadband delivery more efficient, but can pave the way for delivery of future digital services such as VoIP and video."
