SSPA Presents STAR Award To HP

(San Diego CA. October 9, 2001) – The Service & Support Professionals Association (SSPA), the leading industry association for IT support professionals, today announced that it has recognized Hewlett-Packard Company for its customer service excellence with an SSPA Software Technical Assistance Recognition (STAR) Award at the recently held Horizons 2002 World Conference in Savannah, Georgia. As a leader in the industry, HP was honored for delivering exemplary technical support to its customers and presented with a 2001 STAR Award in the Sustained Performance category.

The winner in the Sustained Performance category demonstrates an ongoing level of outstanding overall software and technical support, with high levels of customer satisfaction for at least three consecutive years. To compete, companies must be able to present three years of data, demonstrating sustained performance and how it attributed to high levels of customer satisfaction. HP’s award-winning submission showcased HP’s support response centers as well as its one-stop, multi-vendor support portal: HP’s IT resource center (www.ITRC.hp.com).

“The SSPA STAR Award winners provide a ‘best of breed’ showcase of the top talent within our industry, “ said Bill Rose, SSPA Founder and Executive Director. “HP delivers world-class support services including PC and Web-based support as well as mission-critical and network services, and the STAR Award serves as the highest form of recognition one can receive in the service and support industry.”

HP’s network of response centers offers a comprehensive 24x7 support infrastructure to provide companies with support, whether it be for hardware or software failures or even natural disasters. HP’s award-winning ITRC is a customizable Website where IT professionals get the resources they need to make better, faster IT decisions for their complex IT environments. Containing over 380,000 multi-vendor documents and an online community of more than 700,000 IT professionals, the ITRC offers 24x7 online support, and a wealth of resources on demand -- including self-solve tools, patch and update resources, reliable assistance, training, forums, and a broad multi-vendor knowledge base.

"HP is absolutely dedicated to providing the highest levels of comprehensive, ongoing services and support to its customers. We are pleased to be the recipient of the STAR Award for the Sustained Performance category as it further demonstrates our continued commitment to providing leading-edge solutions that address our customers' always-on Internet infrastructure needs,” said Joanna Wampler, Worldwide Marketing Manager, HP Support Services.

All SSPA Member companies were eligible to nominate themselves in any number of the categories -- Sustained Performance; High Call Volume; Most Improved; Complex Support Applications; Outsource Support Provider; Innovative Support; Mission Critical Support: Small/Emerging Company and Support Technology Vendor. SSPA provides each applicant with an electronic application as a benchmark/guideline. The STAR Award applicants took this task very seriously and spent a considerable amount of time on this arduous, but rewarding process. Many companies that were not fortunate enough to win have said that the entire process was still well worth the time and effort spent. They indicated they learned a lot from completing the application and were able to discover in what areas they needed improvement.
