WOOD DALE, Ill., Aug. 19, 2003 — Rockwell FirstPoint Contact (Company
Profile, Past
Stories, Case
Studies), a global provider of complete call and contact center solutions, today announced it selected two teachers from the state of Illinois to attend the
U.S. Space Camp, a unique week-long experience designed to develop new methods for building student interest in the study of technology.
Participants in the program were chosen on their ability to incorporate the week's experience into their regular educational curriculum.
The following educators were chosen by Rockwell FirstPoint Contact to attend the U.S. Space Camp in Huntsville, Ala.:
· Hector Castro from Orozco Middle School in Chicago
· Lisa Ann Stahl from Parkland Junior High School in Crystal Lake.
During their time at Space Camp, Castro and Stahl participated in hands-on activities, spent time at a resource laboratory for educators and attended lectures by experts in
space technology and its applications. In addition, they received materials for the classroom to assist in developing new educational programs for their students.
The selection of Castro and Stahl is part of a larger philanthropic initiative funded by Rockwell FirstPoint Contact's parent company, Rockwell Automation.
A total of twelve teachers attended the U.S. Space Camp, which was held July 8-13, 2003. Educators from six states experienced the exhilaration of simulated space
travel as participants in the program.
"The support of quality education is one of the major philanthropic goals of Rockwell Automation and Rockwell FirstPoint Contact," said Terry Murphy, president,
Rockwell FirstPoint Contact. "A program, like the U.S. Space Camp Foundation, is just one of the ways we are able to express our commitment to quality and
innovative education initiatives."
The U.S. Space Camp program, founded in 1982, has trained more than 400,000 students and adults in leadership and teamwork. The program, based on NASA's astronaut
training, immerses camp participants in an environment where math and science concepts become tools that allow students of all ages to better understand key aspects of
the space program. An educator's track was created in 1987 and involves an intensive classroom, laboratory and training time focused on space science and exploration.
About 500 educators train annually in June and July at the Huntsville facility.
