UNUMPROVIDENT CORPORATION TO IMPLEMENT PRAGMATECH’S SALES EFFECTIVENESS SOFTWARE

UnumProvident Will Use Software to Support Initiative to Strengthen Market Position

Amherst, NH, December 6, 2001 -- Pragmatech Software, Inc., a leading provider of sales effectiveness software, today announced that UnumProvident Corporation, the leader* in income protection insurance, is implementing Pragmatech’s proposal automation software.  Request for proposal (RFP) Analysts supporting UnumProvident’s global sales organization will use the software to create more consistent and compelling RFP responses for the company as it moves to fortify its income protection leadership position in the large-employer market.

“The Pragmatech implementation is going to help us achieve our large-employer sales objectives,” said Phil Bruen, Vice President, Group Income Protection Management at UnumProvident Corporation.  “The product is an excellent fit for our internal RFP processing and maintenance needs – and will help us provide highly responsive service to our customers and their advisors.”

Bruen reported that as the company continues to sharpen its focus on selling to the large-employer market, more effective RFP response processes have become even more critical.  Following the 1999 merger between Unum Corporation and Provident Companies, Inc., the newly formed UnumProvident Corporation initiated a focus to target the attractive large-employer market. This sales strategy has the potential to generate hundreds of RFPs annually.  To sell more effectively, however, the combined entity needed a system to help RFP Analysts create proposals that more accurately reflect the broad range of products and services that the company offers.   The existing RFP database had become difficult to manage, maintain, and update. The proposal developers needed a better way to generate winning proposals – and save time in the process.

“When compared to other RFP products, we immediately saw great value in the Pragmatech offering,” Bruen said.  “Its intuitive functionality appealed to our users because the software makes it easy to find content and maintain information.  We also liked the keyword search capability and the regular review function that helps users monitor changes.”
