COMMWORKS CORPORATION, A 3COM COMPANY, COMPLETES GLOBAL IMPLEMENTATION OF PRAGMATECH’S PROPOSAL AUTOMATION SOLUTION

Worldwide Rollout Speeds Time To Market of Mission-Critical Responses to RFPs; Enhances Competitiveness, Effectiveness, Responsiveness of Global Salesforce

Amherst, NH, January 16, 2001 -- Pragmatech Software, Inc., a leading provider of sales effectiveness software, has announced that CommWorks Corporation, a 3Com Company (formerly 3Com’s Carrier Networks Business), has completed a worldwide implementation of Pragmatech’s proposal automation solution.  The rollout enables CommWorks’ global salesforce to respond quickly to Requests for Proposal (RFPs) from prospects and customers with the most current and comprehensive information available on the company, its products, and services.  Using The RFP Machineâ and RFP Expressâ from Pragmatech, CommWorks’ Proposal Support Team and global sales organization can now quickly and easily respond to customer demand for information any time of day, from anywhere in the world.

CommWorks Corporation provides IP-based systems and service solutions for the global telecommunications carrier and network service provider industry.  Solutions include Enhanced Data Systems, IP Telephony Systems, Broadband Access Systems, and Wireless Access Systems.  CommWorks’ sales representatives working from 84 offices in 100 countries will have access to over 17 knowledge bases containing more than 25,000 commonly asked questions and answers.  The knowledge bases are continually updated and enhanced using Pragmatech’s RFP Machine software to reflect the evolving nature of CommWorks Corporation’s product and service lineup.

“With hundreds of RFIs and RFPs coming in per year, each with an average lead time of eight business days to respond, it can be increasingly difficult to maintain the level of quality that we demand,” said Jim Wininger, Senior Manager, Proposal Systems, Product Management.  “The Pragmatech software has given us complete control over the proposal generation process on a global scale, and that has resulted in greater customer satisfaction, decreased proposal delivery times, and increased success in gaining new business opportunities. We are now able to concentrate on providing our customers with a professional response that illustrates a complete CommWorks solution addressing both their business and technical needs.”

The Global Imperative

CommWorks implemented The RFP Machine to enable the Proposal Support Team in Mount Prospect, Ill., to design and manage knowledge bases of information on every aspect of its business.  The company also provided its sales organization with Pragmatech’s RFP Express software so they can access the knowledge bases and create custom proposals based on the most relevant information at their disposal, from any location in the world.  Pragmatech's software is the technological foundation of CommWorks’ global proposal automation initiative, called the Automated Worldwide Response Development System (AWRDS).

By deploying the RFP Express software worldwide, CommWorks Corporation has created Virtual Proposal Centers (VPCs) in offices around the world, which has resulted in dramatic cost reductions.  Instead of relying on the Proposal Solutions Team in Mount Prospect for proposal development requirements, representatives are now able to develop their own proposals by utilizing locally based, location-specific data, as well as information housed in centralized knowledge bases.

“The level of technical detail that we must provide is astounding,” Wininger said.  “A typical CommWorks proposal deals with more than 200 questions, runs nearly 150 pages long, contains detailed network diagrams, and is delivered in full-color hard copy and CD-ROM format.  The VPC concept ensures that we can continue to meet and exceed the needs and expectations of our customers by turning these types of documents around efficiently and accurately.”

CommWorks Corporation deployed the RFP Express application in conjunction with their CommWorksâ family of telecommunications and networking solutions to provide global access to the AWRDS system through a secure virtual private network and the company’s own Intranet site.

“CommWorks Corporation’s implementation of The RFP Machine and RFP Express is the ultimate illustration of the effectiveness of Pragmatech’s proposal automation in solving real business problems,” said Brooke Savage, Pragmatech president and CEO.  “We’re delighted to see them deploying our software to its fullest potential and return on investment.”

The RFP Machine and RFP Express give CommWorks Corporation the global capability to custom design and integrate numerous knowledge bases that span their complete product and business lines.  The ability to access and import and/or export information using standard Microsoft Office applications is a critical capability.  In addition, The RFP Machine’s Tracking System allows them to track proposal activity through every stage of the proposal development process and lets them provide the rest of the CommWorks organization with the information they need to determine future business direction and strategies.
