Oracle Expands Its Portfolio of Hosted Internet Services

Introduces Portal.Oracle.com - The Fast and Simple Way to Get Everyone On The Same Home Page

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., Dec. 11 - Oracle Corp. (Nasdaq: ORCL - news), the largest provider of software for e-business, today launched Portal.Oracle.com, the latest in a series of hosted Internet services the company introduced in the last two years. Using Portal.Oracle.com, companies can easily and quickly provide secure access to an enterprise portal, or ``business home page,'' allowing their employees access to business information, enterprise applications, and business-to-business exchanges. With this service, companies don't have to buy, install or deploy software on their own sites. Instead, they can just log onto the Portal.Oracle.com service and quickly and easily configure their company portal. Portal.Oracle.com builds on the success of Oracle's other hosted Internet services, including Oracle Business OnLine, OracleMobile and OracleSalesOnline.com.

``Portal.Oracle.com provides an interesting alternative to licensing software for implementing a corporate portal,'' said James C. Smith, senior analyst at Hurwitz Group. ``As a hosted solution, Portal.Oracle.com offers time to deployment and cost advantages to organizations evaluating corporate information portal solutions.''

Based on a study published by The Delphi Group, over 75 percent of organizations expect to replace their Windows desktop with an enterprise portal webtop by 2002. This estimate reaffirms Oracle's strategy to provide complete and simple technologies and hosted Internet services that deliver a single, unified and personalized view of applications.

With no hardware or software to install or configure, companies no longer have to purchase, configure and manage their portal infrastructure; instead, they can use Portal.Oracle.com's hosted environment. Within minutes, companies can get their e-business portals up and running, deployed on Oracle's industry-leading software infrastructure and professionally managed in Oracle's data centers.

With Portal.Oracle.com, IT departments retain full control over their portal, and can add and remove users, customize portal pages, and administer security privileges through Portal.Oracle.com's remote administration capabilities. Companies also can extend the functionality of their Oracle-hosted portal by taking advantage of the more than 100 portlets already created by Oracle and its software partners in the Oracle® Portal Partner Program. For example, customers can select pre-built portlets for collaboration, business intelligence, calendaring and scheduling, syndicated news, and self-service applications. Portlets are applications that can be deployed within an enterprise portal; virtually any existing application can be made into a portlet using the Oracle Portal Development Kit (PDK).

``Oracle provides the fastest way to get everyone on the same home page,'' said Jeremy Burton, Oracle senior vice president of Product and Services Marketing. ``Oracle is the only application service provider to offer a complete and simple platform for building and deploying scalable, high-performance portals. Companies can now use Portal.Oracle.com to deploy their content and applications securely to anyone in the world using any Internet device.''
