REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., Dec. 9 -- Oracle Corp. (Company

Studies), the world's largest enterprise software company, today announced its partnership with PEOPLink to power the newest release of PEOPLink's CatGen (Catalog Generator) e-commerce platform for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in emerging economies. These enterprises of limited technical and financial resources can now experience the economic opportunity and prosperity of e-commerce experienced by many first-world businesses.
CatGen enables any enterprises located anywhere to create and maintain their own e-commerce catalog and link it into CatGen's e-commerce marketplaces. The Oracle software manages and performs the powerful and complex searches of the e-commerce database currently used by thousands of users in 42 developing countries. Current implementations range from a Brazilian cooperative (www.catgen.com/douropreto) selling embroidery world-wide to a tourism marketplace in Cambodia (www.angkorhotels.org) with thousands of dollars per week of online bookings.
"Oracle believes technology can assist in the development of small enterprises, providing a solid foundation of productivity and profitability for local economies in developing nations only when coupled with a well planned program of training and assistance such as provided by PEOPLink," said Kate McGee, Vice President, Corporate Affairs, Oracle Corporation. According to Dr. Daniel Salcedo, CEO of PEOPLink, "Oracle's partnership provides a huge boost to our ability to provide greater opportunities for SMEs in the global e-commerce marketplace. This is a win-win situation for all involved."
Both Oracle and PEOPLink will participate in the World Summit on the Information Society (www.wsis.org) in Geneva from December 9 to 12, 2003, where they will be doing live CatGen demonstrations at their stand at: Aussteller 1 of the e-champions section of the ITC/SECO/infoDEV Exhibit Area.
