Oracle Announces New Professional Certification Program on Oracle9iNew Certification Tiers Help Meet Market Demand for Oracle Certified ProfessionalsOracle University Offers Special Benefits to Oracle OpenWorld AttendeesSAN FRANCISCO, ORACLE OPENWORLD, Dec. 3 / -- ( http://www.oracle.com/tellmemore/?1157450 ) Oracle Corporation (Nasdaq: ORCL - news), the world's largest enterprise software company, today announced the expansion of Oracle's certification program and on-line training services. Launched this week at Oracle OpenWorld in San Francisco, Calif., the company provides two new options in its Oracle certification program: Oracle Certified Master and Oracle Certified Associate. Students also have the newly introduced option of attending certification training online, rather than in a physical classroom as in the past.``Oracle9i Database is unbreakable, and we know our customers are looking for that kind of security and reliability,'' said John Hall, senior vice president of Oracle University. ``But you can have the most impenetrable safe in the world and it's no good to you unless you know the combination. That's what we teach at Oracle University. The expanded program makes Oracle9i certification more accessible, leading to more trained Oracle professionals in the market place and providing high tech workers with an opportunity to remain competitive in a tough economy.'' According to a September, 2001, IDC report on IT Education and Training Services, the fastest-growing certification areas were for database professionals and network engineers. And in an October survey from crn.com on Certification: What's Hot, What's Not, 58% of respondents said that it is very difficult to find qualified Oracle Certified Professionals-Database Administrators. The crn.com survey also pointed out that Oracle Certified Professionals bill out at around three and a half times more than Microsoft Certified Systems Engineers ($275 per hour for OCPs vs. $75 per hour for MCSEs). In order to help meet this market demand and open up the benefits of becoming Oracle certified to a broader audience, Oracle introduces two new levels of professional achievement to DBAs and soon to be released to Application and Java Developers worldwide: The Oracle Certified Associate (OCA) -- an entry-level Oracle qualification requiring successful completion of two exams. The Oracle Certified Master (OCM) -- an advanced qualification for Oracle Certified Professionals (OCP), that requires students to take a practicum exam on-site at an Oracle University education center. Additionally, to provide more flexible training options to become certified Oracle has expanded its on-line training services to include Instructor-Led Online and Self-Paced Online. Instructor-led Online provides the same experience that students are accustomed to in-class but replicated on-line, bringing live instruction into the student's home or work place to better accommodate travel and budget restrictions. Self-Paced Online offers online access to pre-recorded instruction, with live interaction with both the instructor and peers through chat sessions and asynchronous office hours allowing students to work at their own pace, anytime and anywhere. While certification exams normally cost $125.00 (USD), Oracle OpenWorld attendees will be able to take certification exams onsite at the show for only $50.00. As another Oracle OpenWorld exclusive, Oracle University will offer Oracle9i ``Cram Sessions'' including onsite instructor-led classes and access to online training content, free by pre- registering with Oracle University. The Cram Session teaches the new features of the Oracle9i database and is designed to prepare OCPs to take the Oracle9i New Features Exam. Also, Oracle University has created an innovative new ``Oracle9i Wizards'' program specific to Oracle OpenWorld that will offer attendees the opportunity to participate in learning sessions at the show. Morning sessions led by Oracle gurus will deliver the latest tips, tricks and techniques on how to use Oracle9i technologies. The program will help Oracle professionals learn how to fully leverage Oracle9i infrastructure software to increase productivity, reduce costs and accelerate growth for their companies. After each session, attendees will have the opportunity to take an online quiz to prove their ``wizard status.'' Each Oracle9i Wizard will receive special recognition during the closing keynote at OOW hosted by Thomas Kurian, vice president of development for Oracle9i Application Server. Oracle was chosen the winner of the 2001 Corporate University of the Year by the distinguished National Alliance of Business, which works with employers, educators and policy makers to align learning opportunities at all levels of the education and training system with the demands of the knowledge economy. Oracle University received this award in recognition of its commitment to improving student achievement and workforce quality in the high-tech arena. Oracle University's wide array of online, classroom and blended learning programs work to meet the needs of students' time, budget and travel constraints while providing career-enhancing skills. With more than 100,000 Oracle Certified Professionals worldwide, the OCP program has seen 145 percent growth in its membership in the last year.
