Oracle9i Application Server to Introduce Breakthrough Wireless and Voice Enhancements

SAN FRANCISCO, ORACLE OPENWORLD, Dec. 4 / -- ( http://www.oracle.com/tellmemore/?1158515 ) Extending its lead in offering complete support for wireless and voice applications in its J2EE application server, Oracle Corp. (Nasdaq: ORCL - news) will introduce breakthrough new capabilities in Oracle9i Application Server Release 2, announced today. The new wireless and voice features will include enhanced support for voice access to Internet applications, wireless messaging, wireless security, mobile email, location-based services and support for 2.5G and 3G networks.

Because Oracle's advanced voice and wireless support is fully integrated into its core application server, businesses can benefit from the availability, manageability, scalability and openness that come with Oracle9i Application Server. Additionally, businesses that use Oracle9i Application Server to rapidly and easily deploy wireless and voice applications can experience increased employee productivity and reduced costs since there is no need for special skills or hardware.

``Today's mobile enterprise needs, wants and requires integrated support for voice and wireless applications,'' said Iain Gillott principal and founder of iGillottResearch, a market strategy consultancy focused on the wireless and mobile industry. ``With Oracle9i Application Server, Oracle has removed much of the risk and complexity for enterprises wishing to extend their corporate applications into the field.''

Introducing Unmatched Voice and Wireless Innovation

Since 1999, Oracle9i Application Server has enabled the development of open, standards-based applications that are deployed once and instantly accessible from any device, including a standard phone using voice recognition, a wireless PDA, or one of the next generation 2.5G and 3G wireless handsets.       information management applications, including Microsoft Exchange and
Lotus Notes, calendar, address book, to do and notes.
-- Wireless Security:  Enhanced support for secure wireless transactions
leveraging integrated single-sign on as well as HTTP-S, WTLS and other
      security standards.
-- Location-Based Services:  Integration with leading positioning servers
and the automatic creation of image maps for any device, as well as
yellow pages, driving directions and location personalization
      functionality.
-- 2.5G and 3G Network Support:  Support for applications that leverage
advanced network capabilities to enable, transparent shifting from
small screen browsing to voice browsing and back.
-- Online Developer Studio:  An online developer portal to enable the
rapid development of wireless and voice applications.
-- Mobile Commerce:  A carrier-grade mobile commerce solution featuring
seamless integration with leading electronic payment systems for secure
mobile transactions from any mobile device, using any means of payment
-- including credit cards, micro-payments, existing online merchant
