Oracle9i Application Server Enables Rentals, Inc. to Slash J2EE Rollout Time by 75%Leading Property Management Application Provider Benefiting From Performance and Scalability of Industry's Fastest Application ServerREDWOOD SHORES, Calif., Oct. 29 / -- (http://www.oracle.com/tellmemore/?1058894) Oracle Corp. (Nasdaq: ORCL - news), the world's largest enterprise software company, today announced that Rentals, Inc., the premier provider of rental management software hosted via the Internet, has rapidly migrated its online property management application to J2EE using Oracle9i Application Server (Oracle9iAS). Leveraging the productive deployment tools in Oracle9iAS with its advanced J2EE development environment, Oracle9i JDeveloper, Rentals completed the development, deployment and testing of key components of their application to J2EE in one month, a task that the company initially anticipated lasting at least four months. The improved J2EE performance Rentals has gained adds to the performance benefits the company has already achieved with the built-in caching in Oracle9iAS, which has enabled the company's Web site to run three times faster without costly hardware additions.Saving Customers Time and Money Rentals relies on Oracle9iAS to support its core product, Rentals.com, which provides residential rental property owners and managers with the tools to market, manage and track their properties online. With the performance benefits gained from Oracle9iAS, Rentals.com users now receive the fast, reliable and time-efficient services, enabling them to help reduce resident turnover and more quickly fill vacancies with qualified residents. ``The company's existing platform was designed to serve about 200,000 pages per day at maximum levels of systems resource use. With Oracle9iAS and its built-in Web caching, we were able to triple the peak capacity of our Web site to 600,000 thousand pages per day right out of the box,'' said John Perkins, vice president of Engineering for Rentals. ``Now we also benefit from Oracle9iAS' core J2EE performance, that we have found runs our J2EE components 3 to 4 times faster than Apache.'' Fast, Efficient Migration to J2EE Rentals leveraged the multiple development language support in Oracle9iAS, including J2EE, PL/SQL, Perl and XML, choosing an evolutionary migration path to open standards for their application. Initially written completely in PL/SQL, Rentals' property management application can now use languages for their core strength: PL/SQL for data and dynamic content management, and Java Server Pages for page design, application development and dynamic content generation. Rentals also uses Oracle9i JDeveloper, the industry's first Java and XML IDE, for its Java development. The wizard-based approach of Oracle9i JDeveloper and its advanced Java editing environment enabled developers to ease their transition to Java, and saved a lot of tedious interfaces coding. ``We were able to go live with the latest version of Oracle's J2EE application server in 30 days -- that's four months of Java development, deployment and quality testing that we completed faster than we ever imagined,'' added Perkins. ``With Oracle9iAS and its productive deployment environment, we have not only increased the speed of our core application without having to purchase additional hardware, we also significantly reduced deployment time for new builds of our application from 8 hours to 30 minutes. With Oracle, we've been able to save on both time and money and that's extremely important to us.'' About Oracle Oracle is the world's largest enterprise software company.
