Agilent Technologies and Oracle Sign Strategic Technology AgreementAgilent to Deploy Oracle(R) E-Business Suite Worldwide for Increased Efficiency and Customer ResponsivenessREDWOOD SHORES, Calif. and PALO ALTO, Calif., Oct. 25 Oracle Corp. (Nasdaq: ORCL - news), the largest provider of software for e-business, and Agilent Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: A - news), a leading provider of innovative technologies for communications and life sciences, have signed a strategic agreement that paves the way for Agilent to optimize its global operations and further enhance customer responsiveness through the use of Oracle's best-in-class tools. Agilent will deploy key components of the Oracle® E-Business Suite worldwide to its 46,000 employees for accounting, manufacturing, supply-chain management, purchasing, service and other core business functions. Agilent purchased Oracle's e-business applications in July, 2000.``After Agilent's separation from Hewlett-Packard in 1999, we carefully reviewed all our tools and processes,'' said Alain Couder, executive vice president and chief operating officer for Agilent Technologies. ``Hewlett-Packard was a decentralized company with many different information systems throughout the company. By moving to a global system for the entire company based on Oracle's E-Business Suite, we are making it easier for our customers to do business with us. ``The Oracle solution will bring a new level of responsiveness to Agilent and allow us to run our business on the Internet, from enabling customers to order and configure products online, to establishing closer, more efficient ties to our suppliers,'' added Couder. Over the next 18 months, Agilent and Oracle plan to jointly deploy the Oracle solution at three major Agilent sites. Additional sites worldwide are expected to follow shortly after. The Oracle solution will streamline almost every major business function at Agilent. Oracle's supply chain and manufacturing applications will provide global visibility and instantaneous information exchange across the supply chain, allowing Agilent to focus on delivering high-quality products in the shortest time and at the lowest cost. Oracle's self-service applications will allow customers to order and configure products and suppliers to view payment status or purchase-order changes online. Oracle Service will enable Agilent to achieve more efficient end-to-end service delivery and customer care. The Oracle solution also includes Oracle Financials and Purchasing for improved financial control. After an exhaustive evaluation process lasting several months, Agilent selected Oracle based on the strong capability of its products, Internet leadership and expertise, and high level of commitment to Agilent's success. ``Agilent provides technologies and solutions that are changing the world,'' said Lawrence J. Ellison, Chairman and chief executive officer of Oracle. ``By implementing Oracle's e-business software, Agilent is also adopting the forward-looking business practices that will enable them to transform core business functions and position the company for high growth. With the Oracle E-Business Suite, Agilent can connect its customers, internal operations and suppliers online, fundamentally changing and dramatically improving the way they do business-on the Internet.''
