VERITAS Software, Oracle and Sun Microsystems Offer Global Joint Escalation Center Services

JEC Can Cut Time To Resolution Nearly in Half; Provides Customer With 24x7 Problem Resolution

LAS VEGAS (VERITAS VISION2000) Oct. 23 -- Industry leaders VERITAS Software Corporation (Nasdaq: VRTS - news), Oracle (Nasdaq: ORCL - news), and Sun Microsystems, Inc. (Nasdaq: SUNW - news), today announced they have expanded their global customer support alliance through the addition of Joint Escalation Center engineers in the United Kingdom. With current operations in Pleasanton, Calif., the JEC provides customers with 24x7 problem resolution and has demonstrated the ability to cut customer time to resolution nearly in half. The expansion of the JEC fulfills part of the VERITAS, Oracle and Sun (VOS) Initiative announced in May and is intended to expedite problem resolution for worldwide customers deploying solutions from VERITAS Software, Oracle® and Sun.

Chartered with providing faster, more cohesive problem resolution to the companies' mutual customers who have purchased the appropriate level of support, the JEC uses common support processes and tools to resolve issues involving VERITAS Software, Oracle, and Sun(TM) products. Senior support engineers from each company co-reside in the JEC to support customers worldwide on difficult interoperability issues. Customers around the globe can call the local support number for any of the three companies and front-line engineers can escalate a multivendor problem to the JEC. The engineers in the UK and North America report to a single, accountable manager and work together to resolve mission-critical problems around the clock.

``I am very happy with the expert support I received from the VERITAS, Oracle and Sun Joint Escalation Center,'' said Jason Ramich, database administrator for Corporate Express. ``When my mission-critical, data warehouse support call was quickly escalated to the VOS JEC, I immediately knew I was in good hands. JEC specialists asked the right questions upfront and worked with us 24x7 to conduct root cause analysis. With the JEC's help, we were able to eliminate our local corruption issue, and understand the potential root cause. This should allow us to minimize the recurrence of this issue in our other environments.''

``A consortium of leading IT vendors who co-reside in a single support facility can provide an excellent level of response time and resolution for tough interoperability problems,'' said Tony Adams, Gartner Dataquest analyst.

The JEC is one component of the VOS Initiative, a three-way strategic alliance developed out of Oracle's E-Business Continuity Program and Sun's iForce(SM) Initiative to provide joint customers with a set of well-integrated, high-quality products and services. As part of the VOS Initiative, the three companies are working together to develop and test ``blueprint'' technical configurations and plan to offer a joint consulting service to help customers rapidly build more robust e-business infrastructures. The JEC supports worldwide customers, including customers in Asia Pacific. For more information, please visit http://www.vosinitiative.com.
