Enhanced Contingent Worker and Performance Management Features Help Companies Strengthen Corporate Governance Initiatives and Empower Employees

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., Oct. 8, 2003 -  Oracle Corporation (Company Profile, Past Stories, Case Studies) (NASDAQ: ORCL), the world's largest enterprise software company, today announced enhanced contingent worker and performance management capabilities for Oracle Human Resources Management System (HRMS). The new contingent worker features help Oracle HRMS customers better understand workforce trends and strengthen corporate governance initiatives by effectively tracking, viewing and managing contract employees to meet local reporting regulations. Additionally, the expanded performance management tools empower employees by enabling them to personally supervise their professional development through online self-service portals. The announcement was made at the HR Technology Conference.

"Companies of all sizes have historically struggled to effectively administer the full contract worker employment cycle, from engagement to daily management to termination," said Jim Holincheck, research director at Gartner. "In today's business climate of corporate governance and employee responsibility, it's critical that companies demonstrate full accountability for their entire workforce and can clearly state, at any time, the number of employees it has, what type of employees they are, and their role in the corporation."

With Oracle HRMS, companies can now store contract and permanent employee information in a common repository, providing an accurate view of the entire workforce, including full-time and part-time employees and contractors. By storing all workforce information in one location, companies can differentiate employees based on their hire status, better understand workforce trends and ensure local employee regulatory filings are accurate.

Other capabilities include:
* Advanced reporting: Companies can take advantage of numerous reports including those looking at contingent worker trends vs. full- and part-time employee trends, analyze hourly rates over time, and review skill level proficiencies and deficiencies in particular areas.
* Self-service management: Contingent workers have pertinent and secure access to Oracle Self-Service Human Resources, allowing them to manage all of their personal information including tax withholdings, benefits administration, among many others, and, if they are acting supervisors, to have access to manager self service.

Additionally, Oracle HRMS now enables managers to collaborate more effectively with employees during performance reviews. Employees have the ability to manage all aspects of their professional growth using self-service tools - resulting in improved operating efficiencies, reduced costs and more satisfied workers. For example, if an employee receives feedback to improve their skills in a particular area, the employee can visit his or her personal self-service portal, read the full evaluation, develop a skills development plan, sign up for courses to improve the designated skill set, and continually send progress reports to managers for future evaluations.

"By listening closely to our customers and understanding the human resource challenges they face on a daily basis, Oracle continues to develop new capabilities that are helping them improve process efficiencies, reduce costs and make more informed business decisions," said Joel Summers, senior vice president of Oracle Human Resources Management System development. "Oracle's new HR capabilities further enable our customers to manage all aspects of their workforces while making everyday HR processes easier to accomplish."

As part of the Oracle E-Business Suite, Oracle HRMS helps companies manage all aspects of the workforce, including payroll, recruiting and hiring, benefits administration, training, and performance management. While other HR applications provide limited snapshots of the workforce, Oracle HRMS integrates with all business areas to provide a comprehensive view of the workforce and performance in the enterprise. The improved visibility and analysis capabilities help companies make better HR decisions, such as when to hire key skill areas based on predicted future shortfalls and demand, for improved performance and cost savings.
