OMM Goes Live With Oracle E-Business Suite to Standardize Core Internal ProcessesLeading Photonic Switch Developer Increases Business Efficiencies Using Oracle ApplicationsREDWOOD SHORES, Calif., Oct. 3 -- ( http://www.oracle.com/tellmemore/?918247 ) Oracle Corp. (Nasdaq: ORCL - news), the largest provider of software for e-business, today announced that OMM, Inc., the world's leading supplier of photonic switching subsystems, has increased business efficiencies throughout its financial, manufacturing and purchasing departments using the Oracle E-Business Suite. In November 2000, OMM implemented the Oracle E-Business Suite including Oracle Order Management, Manufacturing and Financials to support the company's rapid growth and build its internal infrastructure.Manufacturing and delivering OMM's Micro Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS)-based photonic switching subsystems requires precise and efficient planning, purchasing and scheduling. OMM customers -- communications equipment manufacturers -- use the MEMS products to build all-optical switching systems for global communications networks. Using the Oracle E- Business Suite, OMM is able to track and manage customers' orders, purchase materials and measure performance in various departments, from manufacturing to accounting. ``We needed an efficient enterprise system that we could easily build and expand upon in the future,'' said Philip Chapman, president and chief executive officer for OMM. ``The Oracle E-Business Suite provides us with a breadth of scaleable products that could support our future growth.'' OMM selected the Oracle E-Business Suite because of its Internet-based infrastructure, which enables the applications to run via a standard Web browser, eliminating the need for OMM to manually reenter data into disparate systems. OMM specifically chose the manufacturing applications included in the Oracle E-Business Suite to help the company collaborate with partners, improve plan quality and support all manufacturing processes. Oracle Consulting, relying on the FastForward implementation approach, implemented 16 modules of the Oracle E-Business Suite for OMM in just five months. Working together, Oracle Consulting and OMM ensured that employees started working as a team immediately. Currently, 60 employees across divisional departments use Oracle's applications, allowing them to access data from a centralized location. OMM uses Oracle Financials to help manage its accounts payables and supplier relationships, providing them with the most timely information, such as purchasing trends, to make informed and intelligent business decisions. OMM is also relying on the Oracle E- Business Suite system to build an expandable, standardized information technology (IT) infrastructure. In addition, the Oracle Financials including General Ledger, Cash Management and Purchasing are used to enable OMM to streamline and simplify business processes throughout the company. ``We looked at other e-business solution providers and found that Oracle was the best fit,'' explained Chapman. ``OMM works on a 24/7 schedule, so the downtime to implement the applications had to be close to zero in order to support our systems and still allow us to focus on developing our systems. The implementation of the Oracle E-Business Suite was seamless and smooth.'' OMM is scheduled to implement Oracle Business Intelligence within the next few months. These applications will help enable the OMM management team to identify new opportunities, increase return-on-investment (ROI) and manage risk by providing important performance metrics and analytical reporting. In the future, OMM will integrate Training Administration, also part of the Oracle E-Business Suite, to improve training programs, control costs and manage resources.
