Level 3 Communications Live on Oracle E-Business Suite

Leading Communications Company Simplifies, Streamlines, Modernizes Operations In Fourteen Countries, Realizing Cost Savings of Fifty Percent

(Nasdaq: ORCL - news), the largest provider of software for e-business, today announced that Level 3 Communications, Inc., a global broadband infrastructure company, has deployed and is live on the Oracle E-Business Suite across its global operations, spanning 14 countries, using just one instance of the Oracle software.

Level 3 has been using Oracle Financials, Human Resources Management System (HRMS) and Payroll since the company's inception nearly four years ago, and most recently added Oracle Incentive Compensation, which has helped result in a cost savings of approximately 50 percent to date.

By running a single instance of the Oracle E-Business Suite and allowing employees around the world to access it via the Internet, Level 3 has standardized and simplified its core business processes. Level 3 also has streamlined its operations on a global basis, using Oracle Financials, HRMS, Payroll and Incentive Compensation.

An example of this streamlining is when new employees join the company, their information is only entered and stored once -- the information flows automatically from Oracle Human HRMS to Payroll, Purchasing and other applications that use the information. Because employees work from one consistent set of data, Level 3 has avoided redundant, time-consuming and unproductive processes to create a solid back-office foundation.

Level 3 has recently integrated its financial-compensation processes and simplified the complex task of paying commissions to its sales force through the use of Oracle Incentive Compensation, a key component of the E-Business Suite. Oracle Incentive Compensation enables companies to match incentives to business objectives and motivate the sales force with online information. With Oracle Incentive Compensation, new incentive programs are configured, approved online and deployed worldwide.

Level 3's customer base comprises telecommunications carriers, Internet service providers, entertainment and media firms, cable, wireless and satellite service providers and other communications companies requiring large amounts of network capacity for delivering data, voice and video.
