REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., Sept. 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --  Oracle Corp. (Company Profile, Past Stories, Case Studies) (Nasdaq: ORCL - News), the world's largest enterprise software company, today announced that The Neiman Marcus Group (Neiman Marcus) -- which includes Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman specialty stores, as well as Neiman Marcus Direct, its direct marketing operation -- is live on the Oracle E-Business Suite. Cap Gemini Ernst & Young (CGE&Y) provided implementation expertise for The Neiman Marcus Group's successful Oracle implementation, which has helped the retail leader attain enterprise-wide visibility into its business, improve corporate and non-merchandise supplier performance management and standardize operations across 49 properties nationwide.

Neiman Marcus chose the Oracle E-Business Suite for broad functionality, controls, workflow, security and out-of-the-box integration that required little customization. Over the past year, CGE&Y has assisted Neiman Marcus in replacing their disparate, homegrown legacy applications with Oracle applications, which are expected to help Neiman Marcus integrate and automate the retailer's core back-office operations, consolidate non-merchandise vendor information and provide global visibility across all indirect supplier activity.

"Neiman Marcus wanted to replace very complex legacy systems on an accelerated schedule," said Rick Hymer, CGE&Y vice president and Oracle leader for the Americas. "CGE&Y, working closely with Neiman Marcus and Oracle, replaced both the purchase-to-pay and financial systems within the aggressive timeframe."

CGE&Y helped Neiman Marcus successfully install several built-in business flows of the Oracle E-Business Suite, including "report-to-close" and "procure-to-pay." Neiman Marcus wanted to replace and consolidate all of its disparate accounting systems with one secure, scalable system. The deployment of "report-to-close," an end-to-end financial solution, which includes Oracle General Ledger, Oracle Accounts Payable and Oracle Fixed Assets has prepared the retailer for growth and enhanced its ability to view data on a total enterprise basis.

"To further our success in the marketplace, we needed to improve internal efficiencies, which meant changing processes. To start, Oracle Financials helps us create and deliver comprehensive reports, giving us better and more timely insight into our operations," said Dale Stapleton, vice president and controller at The Neiman Marcus Group. "Before, we were aggregating a lot of incomplete information from different sources at the end of the month when it was too late to act."

"Neiman Marcus has a strategy of replacing legacy back-office systems. This implementation was the first step in this strategy," said Phillip Maxwell, senior vice president and chief information officer for The Neiman Marcus Group. "I am very pleased with the successful implementation of the Oracle financial and procurement systems. We were able to implement these systems on an accelerated schedule. This allowed us to more quickly achieve the goals of the project."

CGE&Y also took Neiman Marcus live on a complete Oracle "procure-to-pay" business flow that included Oracle iProcurement, Oracle Purchasing, Oracle Order Management, Oracle Inventory Management, Oracle Accounts Payable, Oracle Property Manager and Oracle Projects.

Neiman Marcus implemented Oracle Property Manager and Oracle Projects to better harness its collective purchasing power and help lower overhead costs by processing pre-authorized employee transactions for non-merchandise items, such as store fixtures and supplies. The real estate and project management solutions create better controls on large capital projects, as well as better management of lease payments in a centralized place. Neiman Marcus soon will go live on Oracle iSupplier Portal and Oracle Sourcing to enable it to further consolidate its purchasing and negotiate optimal volume discounts from preferred suppliers.

"By implementing best practices imbedded in the Oracle E-Business Suite, retailers like Neiman Marcus can focus their efforts on differentiating in the store and on creating more value for their stakeholders," said Thomas Madigan, retail industry vice president for Oracle. "The combination of Oracle retail solutions and CGE&Y's implementation expertise has provided Neiman Marcus with a world-class system for financial management and cost control, enabling them to attain enterprise-wide visibility and control and exploit cost savings for competitive advantage."
