Oracle Adds AltaVista Search Software to Portal Initiative

AltaVista to Provide Universal View of Information for Oracle Portal Customers

PALO ALTO, Calif., Sept. 6 / -- AltaVista, the leading search technology and a majority owned operating company of CMGI, Inc. (Nasdaq: CMGI - news), today announced its search software group has entered into an alliance with Oracle® (Nasdaq: ORCL - news) for its Oracle Portal Partner Initiative (OPPI). Under the agreement, AltaVista has made available two custom portlets that integrate AltaVista's award-winning search technology into enterprise portals developed with the Oracle9i Application Server portal framework.

The AltaVista search portlets will provide Oracle9iAS Portal customers a window through which they can simultaneously query multiple sources of information, including databases, documents, intranets, and the Internet. This key capability will allow companies to turn existing data into valuable business information, thereby creating new avenues for efficiency in the enterprise computing environment.

   AltaVista has created two Oracle9iAS portlets:

   -- AltaVista Search Portlet allows Oracle9iAS Portal customers to utilize
      the renowned World Wide Web search site www.altavista.com
   -- AltaVista Search Enterprise Portlet enables Oracle9iAS Portal customers
      to use their own deployment of AltaVista Search Software, taking
      advantage of their unique search requirements


By developing integrated portlets and working within the Oracle portal framework, AltaVista's leading search technology will enable customers to deploy powerful, comprehensive enterprise information portals that can enhance organizational efficiency. The Oracle Portal Partner Initiative is dedicated to establishing a community of leading system integrators, independent software vendors, and content aggregators who build, deliver, and support solutions built around Oracle's portal framework. As a member of the Oracle Portal Partner Initiative, AltaVista may collaborate with program participants and will have access to sample portlets and code from other vendors, as well as the latest versions of Oracle9iAS Portal.
