ORACLEWORLD, SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Oracle (Company
Profile, Past
Stories, Case
Studies)Corp. (Nasdaq: ORCL - News), the world's largest enterprise software company, today announced Oracle® Enterprise Manager 10g, the
industry's first software designed to manage Oracle enterprise grids. The new software will help customers and partners reduce the cost and complexity of managing
business applications.
Customers already are beginning to take advantage of the cost savings and performance enhancements offered by grid computing thanks to the convergence of key
technology trends, such as standardizing on low-cost commodity hardware and consolidating servers into clusters. Nevertheless, these new grid computing environments
can make it extraordinarily difficult for system administrators to manage using traditional management tools. Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g directly addresses these
management demands.
Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g introduces automated management software that provides a complete view of a company's computing infrastructure. System administrators
can enforce policies, manage service levels, and rebalance existing computing resources and applications as business requirements change -- with the highest quality of
service.
"Oracle's Enterprise Manager 10g is designed specifically for managing and monitoring the Oracle environment and adds real value for Oracle's customers," said
Paul Mason, group vice president of Infrastructure Software Research at IDC. "Perhaps the most important attribute is that it comes preconfigured and ready to use, so
organizations can immediately benefit without having to do upfront customization or configuration."
New Grid Software Transforms Data Into Valuable Information
As part of the Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g announcement, Oracle today introduced Oracle Grid Control, new software designed to help customers monitor and manage
entire Oracle grid infrastructures -- from databases and applications to storage -- all within a single console. Oracle Grid Control is the industry's first grid management
product to recommend expert advice on how to better plan for capacity, availability and performance needs within a grid. At the core of Oracle Grid Control is a "control
repository" that contains performance, availability and configuration data about the entire enterprise, as well as a set of centralized management capabilities that
transform and configure data into valuable information. Using Oracle Grid Control, administrators can reduce the complexity of managing multiple servers in a cluster and
automate the management of computing resources.
"The key to managing high-performing, fully-managed solutions in a widely distributed enterprise is to build an environment with as much standardization and
repeatability as possible," said Warwick Calkin, group manager, Platform Services, Telstra Corporation. "Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g provides us with a
single, integrated solution to manage thousands of systems from a single HTML console. We will use Oracle's new management software to maximize the availability,
performance and reliability of Telstra's entire environment."
"Managing enterprise grids is a technology discipline that encompasses architectural issues, people, processes and best practices," said Charles Rozwat,
executive vice president, Server Technologies, Oracle Corporation. "Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g is a product of Oracle's world-class data center management
experience, delivering new levels of automation and intelligence to help administrators increase productivity."
Open and Extensible
Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g is built on an open, standards-based architecture. It supports key management standards, including Common Information Model (CIM) and
Web-based Enterprise Management (WBEM) developed by Distributed Management Task Force (DMTF).
