OCTANE SOFTWARE ANNOUNCES EUROPEAN EXPANSION

Leading eCRM Vendor Opens Office in Europe, Appoints General Manager and Signs First Local Customers

San Mateo, Calif. - October 5, 1999 - Octane Software, Inc.™, a leading provider of electronic customer relationship management (eCRM) solutions, today announced the opening of its U.K. office, the first in a comprehensive network of offices serving local markets in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA). This expansion enables Octane to capitalize on the rapidly expanding European eCRM marketplace by leveraging its groundbreaking technology and establishing an early leadership position. Octane also announced that it has appointed Ken Morton as general manager of EMEA. A seasoned enterprise software industry veteran, Morton is responsible for sales, services and local operations in these rapidly expanding eCRM markets. Jump-starting its ascent into the European marketplace, Octane recently sold its award-winning Octane 99™ eCRM solution to several European customers, including Autonomy of Cambridge, U.K. and Categoric Software of London, U.K.

Filling the European eCRM Void
Octane is at the sweet spot of two European growth phenomena: the rapid growth of the European CRM marketplace, which is expected to reach $5.6 billion by 2002, according to Hewson Group, an analyst firm in the U.K.; and the rapid expansion of European Internet usage, which Framingham, Massachusetts-based International Data Corp. estimates will equal the U.S. by 2003. In contrast to first-generation CRM vendors who are constrained by dated product architectures and lengthy implementation periods, Octane offers a new generation of eCRM software which has a Web-centric architecture, totally integrated multi-channel functionality (e.g. email, Web, telephone) and a short implementation period.

Rob Loughan, senior vice president, worldwide sales and services for Octane states, "Internet fever has now hit Europe, and Octane is well-positioned to benefit from this opportunity. We have implemented an aggressive course of leveraging our North American success toward establishing a leadership position in the European eCRM marketplace."

Morton: Seasoned Industry Veteran
Octane's new general manager for EMEA is a seasoned industry veteran with 12 years of experience in enterprise software sales and business development for companies such as Clarify Inc. and Inference Corp. Operating across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, Morton will build Octane's sales and service infrastructure in these regions as well as oversee third-party relationships with EMEA companies. Morton reports directly to Loughan.

At Clarify, Morton grew the EMEA telecommunications vertical business unit into one of the most profitable units in the company. Prior to Clarify, Morton was at Inference as a key member of its European management team overseeing related sales efforts. Morton earned a Ph.D. in Physics from London University and a M.B.A. from Henley Management College in the U.K. He has extensive experience in the Pan-European markets, the U.S. information technology industry, and achieved an impressive record of consistently exceeding strategic sales objectives while pioneering significant partner deals for the worldwide market.

New EMEA Office
Octane Software's U.K. presence represents the beginning of its strong EMEA growth plan, with other European offices to open next year. Octane can be reached at its new U.K. office, serving the EMEA regions, at: Regus House, 400 Thames Valley Park Drive, Thames Valley Park, Reading, Berks RG6 1PT, U.K. Telephone: +44 118-963-7450 and Fax: +44 118-963-7620.
