Metrix Partners with Hypercosm to Provide Innovative 3D Technology to Growing Client Base

Interactive 3D graphics technology adds new web-based product service capabilities to industry leading e-Service Solutions from Metrix

Waukesha, WI — October 16, 2000 — Metrix, Inc. today announced a partnership with Hypercosm, Inc., with the goal of taking a new, visual approach to e-Service.  Through this partnership, companies using the Metrix e-Service suite will be able to allow their customers or field force professionals to log onto the web and work through product service issues with 3D graphics using applications developed by Hypercosm.

"The ability to see a product through 3D modeling is of great benefit to field force professionals, and has even greater potential in the area of e-Service," said Doug Peters, vice president of e-Business Strategies for Metrix.  "As companies begin to offer customer self-service, 3D modeling can provide a new dimension to knowledge-based functionality, going beyond simple text analysis to actually show someone how to fix simple repair problems.  The Hypercosm format makes viewing 3D models realistic for nearly everyone, by making the file sizes manageable."

Hypercosm uses a proprietary language to create interactive 3D graphic files, and to compile that content in to ultra small files that are rendered by a player on client computers.  The files can be developed with the Hypercosm Studio, or existing files with 3D graphics can be translated into the Hypercosm format.  "We have translators for the most popular 3D file formats available today, including 3D Studio Max® and Lightwave®," said Nanette Ponte, Vice President of Sales for Hypercosm. "With out-of-the-box functionality available to nearly everyone."

"For example, we can take a 3D Studio Max file that is several MB in size, translate and compile it to the Hypercosm format, and the same information will only take up about 30KB.  Regardless of modem speed, that means a significant decrease in download time."

In addition to the application, Hypercosm also has a Professional Services Division, that work with companies to develop 3D content for the web in areas of customer care, e-Commerce, and product training.

"The Technology Alliance Partners program truly provide a synergistic relationship," said Steve Szamocki, Director of Partner and Alliance Programs. "The partnership ensures that customers are provided with a system that wasn’t integrated as an afterthought, but  developed by two organizations working closely together to combine the strengths of two separate applications, creating greater value to the customer."
