METAVANTE ADDS FIFTH THIRD BANCORP AS CLIENT

Bank Selects Leading Customer Relationship Management and Document Composition Software

MILWAUKEE, August 6, 2001 – Fifth Third Bancorp (Nasdaq: FITB) of Cincinnati has selected Metavante Corporation, a leading financial services enabler, to provide three products for use throughout its organization —Extended Account Analysis (XAA) software for account analysis and reporting, XAA Workbench, a graphical enhancement to XAA, and CSF™ document composition software.  Fifth Third also contracted with Metavante to deliver installation and conversion support.  Metavante is the technology subsidiary of Marshall & Ilsley Corporation (NYSE: MI).

Following its recent acquisition of Old Kent Financial Corporation, a long-standing Metavante client using the XAA and CSF software, Fifth Third expanded the existing Old Kent licensing agreement into a new contract.

“We had been looking at Metavante for both CSF and XAA prior to the acquisition of Old Kent,” said Ed Dressman, Vice President, Fifth Third Bancorp.  “With the acquisition, it made sense to expand Old Kent’s existing relationship with Metavante and bring the benefits to Fifth Third customers.”

“We’re pleased to welcome Fifth Third Bank as a Metavante client,” said Linda Fischer, vice president and general manager, Metavante Customer Relationship Management (CRM) solution group, which delivers the XAA and XAA Workbench products. “Building on our successful and long-standing relationship with Old Kent, we welcome the opportunity to deliver premier CRM and CSF software to the entire Fifth Third organization.”

With the addition of Fifth Third, XAA is now licensed by four of the top 20 U.S. banks including First Union, SunTrust and PNC; it also is available in an application service provider (ASP) environment.  In addition to its proven commercial CRM solution, Metavante delivers a complete, integrated customer care solution that offers analytical and decision support capabilities, channel integration, sales and support automation, and financial professional services consulting.  The company provides CRM products and services as an ASP to more than 660 financial service organizations, assisting them in obtaining a complete understanding of their business and customer relationships.
