Knowlix Ships iKnow and iKnowAuthor v4.5 Software

Users Benefit from Enhanced Authoring, Security and Reporting

DRAPER, UT-September 23, 1999-Knowlix Corporation today announced that it is shipping its newest release of iKnow and iKnowAuthor software. The new releases contain enhanced administrative features that allow users to fine-tune their knowledge systems. New iKnow v4.5 lets users customize the look and feel of knowledge they capture in the workflow. The new version of iKnowAuthor gives administrators greater control over knowledgebase access through enhanced security, plus increased intelligence through enhanced reporting capability.

"Using the reporting features in iKnowAuthor, we have been able to correlate call volume to call closure," said Kathy Delisle, Knowledgebase Administrator at Kronos Incorporated, a leading provider of frontline labor management systems. "The reports show that analysts using iKnow software have a significantly higher call closure rate and that new analysts using iKnow get up to speed much faster."

The Reporting enhancements within iKnowAuthor enable administrators to track variables such as frequently used documents, usage by product category, and author productivity. Besides a set of standard reports that ship with the product, customers using Seagate Crystal Reports® can create custom reports for the knowledge system and run them using iKnowAuthor.

The new Security enhancements in iKnowAuthor let knowledge administrators specify who can access entire knowledgebases, specific knowledgebase documents, and even specific application features of the product.

"Our customers wanted increased security for their knowledge systems," said Bruce Law, VP of Marketing at Knowlix. "The new security features in iKnowAuthor let knowledge authors designate, at the document level, who sees what support content. This way they only need to author the content once and can avoid creating separate knowledgebases for each audience."

Knowlix has added a suite of additional features to iKnowAuthor that give knowledge administrators enhanced customization and administration capability.
  • Knowledgebase Backup. Using the new KB Backup utility in iKnowAuthor, administrators can perform backups of knowledgebases even while they're in use.
  • Database Import. With the new KB Import utility authors can import structured data-like call management databases and trouble tickets-directly into a knowledgebase.
  • Customized Forms. Administrators can determine the type of content that can be captured at the frontline by creating customized entry fields using the new Form Designer utility.
  • Universal Styles. With Style Editor, knowledge authors can create style sheets that control how documents look within the knowledgebase.
  • Knowledgebase View. With new Style Mapper, administrators can change the way an entire knowledgebase looks.
iKnow software includes new features that help frontline users enhance the communication value of the knowledge they capture. The new features enable frontline technicians to check for duplicate solutions, correct spelling, format content for readability, and insert graphics, Web links and attachments to explain a solution in more detail.
