HP STREAMLINES MEDIUM-SIZED WINDOWS NT APPLICATION AND NETWORK MANAGEMENT WITH HP OPENVIEW EXPRESSFirst Extension to HP OpenView Express, HP OpenView Service Desk, Ensures Customer SatisfactionPALO ALTO, Calif., Nov. 8, 1999 -- Hewlett-Packard Company today introduced a powerful, focused solution that takes medium-sized Windows NT(R) environments from reactive chaos to proactive control. HP OpenView Express unites application, network, system and storage management with cross-discipline integration, implementation services and affordable support to create a complete Windows NT management solution.HP OpenView Express facilitates quicker problem isolation and resolution by integrating information across management disciplines in such areas as event correlation, thresholds, alarming and reporting. The result is a solution that delivers a fast return on investment through rapid deployment, integration, and improved performance and availability of Windows NT environments. HP OpenView Service Desk extends the HP OpenView Express solution into the help-desk arena by delivering flexible, customizable help-desk capabilities and proactive support to increase customer satisfaction. According to a July 19, 1999 Dataquest study -- "NSM Middleprise Market: Bloom, Boom, or Bust?" -- middleprise (small- to medium-sized businesses) market opportunities are expected to grow to $5 billion in 2002 worldwide, with between 75,000 to 100,000 U.S.-based companies falling into this category in 1999. The Dataquest study also highlights that middleprise companies have the same systems and network problems as enterprise companies, but many lack the IT resources to solve their IT problems. "Solutions such as HP OpenView Express take into account medium-sized-business challenges and provide a good balance between quick return on investment and integrated breadth of technology," said Olivier Helleboid, acting vice president and general manager of HP's OpenView Software Business Unit. "HP OpenView has formed a dedicated organization committed to providing tailored solutions to medium-sized businesses." Cross-discipline Windows NT Management HP OpenView Express is especially compelling for companies that are adding networked Windows NT applications, such as Microsoft(R) Exchange, to existing file and print environments. Networked applications depend on interrelationships between the server, network, data and application. Focusing on just one management discipline does not account for these interrelationships. HP OpenView Express solves this problem by providing key information across disciplines. "HP really delivered," said Jesse Vardaman, Network Services manager at Heidelberg Group, a market leader in printing and publishing solutions, located in Kennesaw, Ga. "We had the challenge of keeping our Windows NT applications available and performing well, but we didn't have the time and money to invest in a complicated management solution. MicroAge, working with HP, brought in HP OpenView Express, and within days we saw specific improvement. Within three weeks, we achieved control over our entire Windows NT environment." HP OpenView Express combines HP OpenView ManageX, HP OpenView Network Node Manager, HP OpenView OmniBack II, a cross-discipline integration package and one year of HP services and support to provide IT managers with more breadth and insight than most point management solutions without the complexity and time associated with conventional framework solutions. As a result, Windows NT administrators can quickly move their entire medium-sized Windows NT environments from reactive chaos to proactive control. Extending Windows NT Management Capabilities HP OpenView Service Desk combines integrated support processes, such as call, incident and problem, with quality management processes, including configuration, change and workflow management, on a Windows NT platform. A "quick start" implementation package -- Internet-enabled capabilities that provide instant access to Web-based knowledge bases, flexible customization without programming, and an innovative user interface based on Microsoft's "look and feel" -- enables customers to adapt to changing environments easily based on critical business requirements. U.S. Pricing and Availability HP OpenView Express is available immediately and starts at $17,295. This price represents a 40 percent discount when compared to the price of each separate component. HP OpenView Service Desk starts at $900 per user license and is available now.
