Help Desk Institute Announces Formation of Two New Local ChaptersAustin, TX and Sonoran Desert, AZ Chapters Bring Nationwide Total to 54 in 33 StatesCOLORADO SPRINGS, CO – September 23, 2002 – Help Desk Institute (HDI), the world’s largest industry association for help desk and support professionals, today announced the formation of two new local chapters – the Austin, TX chapter and the Sonoran Desert (Tucson), AZ chapter.The Austin, TX chapter’s board of directors will include Martha Lundgren of the Texas Association of School Boards as chapter president; Dave Benton of Austin Ventures, vice president, programs; Michele C. Bonner of Austin Energy, vice president, membership; Adrian DuPre of Centerpulse USA, Inc., treasurer, and Joachim Strenk of MicroAssist, secretary. The new chapter’s kick-off meeting will take place on Wednesday, September 25th at 2:30pm, and will feature a presentation by Ron Muns, founder and CEO of HDI. The formation of the Sonoran Desert (Tucson), AZ chapter is the successful result of a commitment by several employees of the City of Tucson, including Lee Levin of the city’s Department of Information Technology as chapter president; Cindy Dooling, Pima Community College, vice president; Peter Scalzo, City of Tucson Department of Information Technology, treasurer; Sabrina Stardevant, City of Tucson Department of Information Technology, database administrator; and Tanja Kaletsch, City of Tucson Department of Procurement, webmaster. Ron Stewart of the U.S. Army Networks, Engineering & Telecom Activity, Ft Huachuca, AZ is a charter member of the new chapter. As one of its first initiatives, the chapter will sponsor a three-day Help Desk Analyst Boot Camp, which will help prepare support professionals for HDI Certification. Donna Holt, an HDI Authorized Training Partner, will facilitate the course, which will be held at Best Western Executive Inn, 333 W. Drachman, Tucson, AZ, November 6-8, 2002. “Our mission is to provide a forum where support professionals can network with their peers for professional development, and enhance their skills through shared knowledge and training,” stated Levin.
