Colorado Springs, Colo. – Aug. 2, 2004 — HDI (Company Profile, Past Stories, Case Studies), the world's largest membership association for service and support professionals and the premier certification body for the industry, today announced it is offering the ITIL (IT Infrastructure Library) Foundations Course online. This course will introduce IT service management professionals to ITIL and prepare them for implementing ITIL processes in their organization.

ITIL is a comprehensive, vendor-neutral set of best practices, guidelines, concepts and systems that address key processes in IT service management. First created in the 1980's in the UK for a government agency, ITIL was later expanded for use in all organizations and today has become the international standard for IT service management. ITIL was initially adopted in Europe, and is now implemented at organizations across the globe. More than 10,000 companies have already adopted ITIL. Adopting the ITIL framework can result in increased satisfaction with IT services, improved IT services, cost reduction, better communication between IT staff and customers, standards and guidance for IT staff, greater productivity, better use of skills and experience, and an overall quality approach to IT services.

“ITIL emphasizes the importance of providing IT services to satisfy business needs in a cost-effective manner. Today many IT organizations are striving to become more customer-oriented to demonstrate their contribution to overall business objectives. ITIL can help IT organizations to achieve this,” stated Judy Benda, executive director, training and certification, HDI. “HDI is a strong supporter of the ITIL framework, and we are delighted to make the Foundations course available online to our members and others in the industry.”
