Great Plains and works.com Partner to Deliver Online Business Purchasing

Relationship Provides Integrated and Automated Solution from Purchase to Payment

Fargo, ND, and Austin, TX, September 13, 1999 - Great Plains (Nasdaq: GPSI) and works.com, a business Internet service that helps companies move purchasing online, today announced a partnership to deliver an automated online solution for purchasing business products. Available at http://www.works.com/greatplains, this partnership allows Great Plains customers and partners to fully automate the way they purchase and pay for office and technology products such as desk accessories, paper products, filing devices and business machines.

The partnership will bring the benefits of works.com's online business purchasing service to Great Plains partners and customers by providing direct access to works.com through www.greatplains.com. The works.com/greatplains site features wholesale direct prices and online purchase requesting and ordering. Purchasing is simplified and spending control is improved with company-established approval policies that automatically filter and manage purchase requests. Additionally, purchase requests can be monitored quickly and easily, from approval and ordering to shipping and delivery.

"By partnering with works.com, we're allowing our customers and partners to move beyond inefficient manual purchasing processes and gain the tremendous benefits of an integrated purchasing solution," said Darren Laybourn, vice president of development, Great Plains. "They can do their jobs better and faster, saving a tremendous amount of time, energy and money."

The average company spends $107 to manually process a $27 purchase of office supplies (source: Aberdeen Group), and most purchases require a cycle time of one to two weeks (source: Simon Management Group, works.com). works.com dramatically reduces this processing time and expense by managing purchasing online. By using works.com, customers can automate their purchasing for only $1.50 per order. Additionally, works.com can be implemented in minutes, with no software to buy, install or maintain.

The Great Plains and works.com partnership consists of two components. The Purchasing System is designed by works.com and automates internal processes for purchase requesting and approval to ordering, tracking, and reporting via the Internet. The second component, Business Document Exchange, will provide future integration from purchases made on works.com/greatplains to Great Plains' business management solutions. By downloading information from the Purchasing System to the purchasing solutions, back office functions associated with data entry, reconciliation and payment will be automated.

"This relationship with Great Plains will enable us to fulfill our vision of creating a fully automated purchasing solution," said Martin Neath, works.com president and chief operating officer. "By automating the entire process - from purchase to payment - we are dramatically changing the way companies buy business products."
