E.piphany Listed as 'Sole Leader' in Analyst Firm's E-Marketing Magic Quadrant

Company Also Listed as a Leader in Relationship Optimization Quadrant

SAN MATEO, Calif., Nov. 1 / -- E.piphany, Inc. (Nasdaq: EPNY - news), a leading provider of next-generation customer relationship management (CRM) software, today announced that the company was listed as a leader in marketing applications in two research notes published in October 2001 by Gartner, Inc., a leading industry analyst firm.

The E.piphany E.5(TM) system was listed as the only leader among 16 vendors in Gartner's E-Marketing Magic Quadrant study released on October 11, 2001. The company was also positioned in the leadership quadrant in Gartner's Relationship Optimization Quadrant report released on October 8, 2001. Both reports indicate the critical value of marketing as applied in customer sales and service interactions among global businesses.

According to Gartner, vendors evaluated in the E-Marketing Magic Quadrant can fall into one of four categories: Leaders, Challengers, Visionaries and Niche Players. E.piphany was the 'sole leader' in the Leaders quadrant, based on its ability to execute and completeness of vision. The report states, ``E-marketing will continue to be a key enabler of an enterprise's overall marketing effort; however, it is becoming part of an overall CRM solution. To optimize the benefits of e-marketing functionality, winning enterprises must address those efforts in the broader context of an overall CRM implementation.'' Gartner Research Note: M-14-3136: ``Gartner Introduces Its E-Marketing Magic Quadrant,'' A. Sarner, W. Janowski.

As the market grows and more focus is placed on the value of marketing as it is applied to requirements in customer sales and service interactions, E.piphany is in an excellent position to expand its market position with E.piphany E.5, the company's enterprise CRM offering that addresses the entire customer lifecycle. Furthermore, Gartner estimates that through 2002, enterprises leveraging e-marketing data into collective customer repositories will be 40 percent more effective in targeting profitable customers and quality prospects than competitors that do not take advantage of data from their electronic channels (0.6 probability). Gartner Research Note: M-13-3675: ``This Is the Best Time for E-Marketing,'' A. Sarner.

``Our performance in Gartner's E-Marketing Quadrant and the Relationship Optimization Quadrant highlights the importance of marketing as a business imperative and pre- requisite for any successful CRM strategy,'' said Jeff Pulver, Executive Vice President of Marketing. ``From day one, we've built integrated, intelligent solutions that have become the 'gold standard' for companies to plan, execute, and monitor permission-based campaigns over traditional and electronic channels. By leveraging existing customer data, E.piphany's marketing applications help companies generate revenue more effectively by understanding customer trends and providing the means to address each customer individually, in the most appropriate fashion.''

NOTE: Gartner's permission to quote its Magic Quadrant research should not be deemed to be an endorsement of any company or product depicted in the quadrant. The Magic Quadrant is Gartner's opinion and is an analytical representation of a marketplace at and for a specific time period. It measures vendors against Gartner-defined criteria for a marketplace. The positioning of vendors within a Magic Quadrant is based on the complex interplay of many factors. Gartner does not advise enterprises to select only those firms in the Leaders segment. In some situations, firms in the Visionary, Challenger, or Niche Player segments may be the right match for an enterprise's requirements. Well-informed vendor selection decisions should rely on more than a Magic Quadrant. Gartner research is intended to be one of many information sources and the reader should not rely solely on the Magic Quadrant for decision-making. Gartner expressly disclaims all warranties, express or implied of fitness of this research for a particular purpose.
