eOn Communications Corporation™ (Company
Profile, Past
Stories, Case
Studies) (NASDAQ: EONC), a leading provider of unified voice, e-mail and Web-based communications systems, is part of the team of companies that has
been awarded a $4.6 Million contract by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for the FAA Air Traffic Control Command and Control Center (ATCSCC) in Herndon,
Virginia. The contract was awarded to Frequentis USA, Inc. (FUSA) as the prime contractor who teamed with eOn Communications and Lockheed Martin TSS (formerly
ATM) to provide a Conferencing Control System, or CCS. The FAA determined the selected solution to be the overall best value for the government.
The eOn, Frequentis and Lockheed Martin solution will provide multifaceted voice conferencing and switching capabilities supporting air traffic management coordination
among FAA facilities, airlines and associated organizations. eOn will use its eQueue Solution as the core switching and routing platform for the CCS. It will interface with
existing telephone networks, consisting largely of government-furnished point-to-point and multi-unit dedicated lines. The CCS will be required to support multiple supervisory
signaling interface requirements and provide complete dialing functions for local, long distance and international destinations.
“We were privileged to partner with Frequentis USA and Lockheed Martin TSS on this project and are delighted that the team was awarded the contract by the FAA.,” said
Troy Lynch, eOn’s president & chief executive officer. “As an open solution, the eQueue easily interfaces with the other pieces of communication equipment necessary
to meet the FAA’s requirement and is another example of our ability to deliver the redundancy and reliability needed in mission critical environments”
The CCS contract includes the design, test, installation, training, and maintenance support for the switching and conferencing system to be located at the Command Center.
The CCS supports the projected needs for the facility’s voice communications through a ten (10) year life cycle contract. Formal Qualification Test (FQT) is scheduled for
November 2003 and Site Acceptance Test (SAT) is planned for March 2004.
“The contract will replace the current, aging voice switch in the FAA’s ATCSCC, the location from which all of the US Air Traffic was ordered grounded during the terrorist
attack on Sep. 11, 2001,” said Robert Pfister, president of Frequentis USA, Inc. “That emergency demonstrated the need for a larger and more sophisticated
switching and conferencing system in the control center. The contract allows for growth and it provides an intuitive, state-of-the-art user interface to ease the Specialist’s
work load.”
