eMation Signs Software Licensing Agreement with Beckman CoulterExpands Remote Diagnostics Capabilities on Laboratory EquipmentMansfield, MA – July 31, 2001 – eMation™ Inc., a pioneer of Device Relationship Management (DRM) solutions, today announced an enterprise software licensing agreement with Beckman Coulter, Inc. (NYSE: BEC) for the eMation DRM™ Device Relationship Management system. The system is intended to expand the remote diagnostic capabilities of Beckman Coulter’s SYNCHRON LX® chemistry analyzers to allow Web-enabled transmission of instrument data. According to Beckman Coulter, by proactively troubleshooting instruments using remote diagnostic technology and scheduling service calls before actual instrument problems occur, the company can improve instrument performance and lower service costs.“Beckman Coulter is a pioneer in remote diagnostic technology and was one of the first diagnostic companies to implement the capability on our diagnostic instrument systems, including our highly successful SYNCHRON LX chemistry line,” said Jeff McHugh, Beckman Coulter vice president, diagnostics commercial operations, Americas. “Now we are looking for ways to improve the remote diagnostic capabilities on our instrument systems to offer an even higher level of customer service. The eMation DRM Device Relationship Management system is a real breakthrough that is intended to help us increase our abilities to remotely diagnose and troubleshoot potential instrument problems and schedule maintenance appointments before instruments need service, reducing the number of unscheduled visits and downtime.” “We help companies access critical information that can lead to significant savings for companies through reduced service calls and, ultimately, increased customer loyalty,” said eMation President and CEO Dale Calder. “With our technology, Beckman Coulter can enhance laboratory equipment performance and improve its already outstanding level of customer service.” The eMation DRM Device Relationship Management system gathers key system performance data from analyzers at laboratory sites and transmits the data to secure servers at the manufacturer’s customer service center. Security levels ensure that only instrument data can be accessed; confidential patient information cannot be viewed. With the technology, instrument manufacturers can view operations data in real-time from remote locations via standard Web browsers. The technology also automatically notifies customer service representatives about instrument trends that could result in instrument downtime. This enhanced remote diagnostic capability will help Beckman Coulter provide preventative service on its clinical analyzers, increasing instrument uptime and decreasing the number of unscheduled service calls. Beckman Coulter’s SYNCHRON product line is the most widely placed chemistry system in U.S. hospitals. The system performs more than 100 routine chemistry tests, including tests for therapeutic drug monitoring, drugs of abuse and diabetic conditions. About Device Relationship Management Device Relationship Management addresses a significant information blind spot within most companies and business systems today. DRM leverages the Internet to connect product organizations to the things they care about most -- the products they make and sell -- and keep them connected throughout their lifecycle. It allows timely, accurate, and unbiased information to be communicated automatically between remote devices – intelligent machines, equipment, products, sensors, and systems -- deployed at customer facilities and external monitoring and service personnel or enterprise business systems like CRM and Operation Support Systems (OSS), enterprise resource planning (ERP), supply chain and asset management. Device Relationship Management helps turn reactive business systems into proactive business systems providing new sources of revenue and increased operational efficiency at lower costs with an ROI that can often be measured in months.
