Delano Launches Java Edition of e-Business PlatformRelease enables enterprise-wide deployment of interaction-based e-business applications across Unix operating systems with support for Enterprise JavaBeansTORONTO---October 4, 2000---Delano Technology Corporation (NASDAQ: DTEC), a leading provider of interaction-based e-business solutions for the enterprise, today announced the immediate availability of the Java Edition of the Delano™ e-Business Interaction Suite™, an e-business platform that enables organizations to rapidly develop and deploy e-business applications to manage enterprise-wide interactions with customers, partners, suppliers, and employees. The Java Edition extends Delano’s support and integration for industry standards such as XML, WAP and COM, to include the Java™ platform and the complete set of technologies encompassed within the Java 2™ Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE), including Enterprise JavaBeans™ (EJB). The initial Java release enables deployment of Delano’s multi-channel e-business platform across Sun Solaris and Red Hat Linux operating systems, with support for HP-UX and IBM AIX by the end of calendar year 2000. “Delano has made a strong commitment to serve its enterprise customers with solutions that leverage and extend existing technology investments to drive greater results and reduce total cost of ownership,” said John Foresi, president and CEO of Delano. “By also offering a solution that is fully architected in Java, we are providing our customers with full support for Unix platforms, enabling them to leverage the true enterprise scalability and 24x7 reliability of Unix systems. Using our platform, our enterprise customers can automate their core business functions to increase operational efficiencies, and execute event-driven interactions with their customers to foster profitable relationships.” According to Bill Blundon, executive vice president of Extraprise, a Boston-based e-services firm, “the Java Edition of the Delano e-Business Interaction Suite enables Delano to deploy its solutions across a much larger enterprise audience, providing even greater opportunities for the company in the financial and telecommunications industries, two sectors which ultimately require technology solutions that seamlessly interoperate in Unix environments.” To address Delano’s commitment to delivering world-class products, the company worked closely with Nortel Networks™, a participant in Delano’s beta customer program for the Java Edition of the Delano e-Business Interaction Suite. Nortel Networks, an existing Delano customer, used the NT version of Delano’s e-business platform as an enabling technology for its Clarify eResponse Manager, an application within Clarify eFrontOffice 9.0 that provides customer service and sales organizations with an efficient and effective way to manage inbound e-mail and deliver fast, accurate and personalized responses to customer interactions. “Delano provided Nortel Networks with a time-to-market advantage when we integrated response management into Nortel Networks Clarify eFrontOffice 9.0, which we launched earlier this year,” said John Ragsdale, General Manager of eService, Clarify eBusiness Applications, Nortel Networks. “Based on the beta testing phase we just completed on the Java Edition of the Delano e-Business Interaction Suite, we are confident that Delano is providing Nortel Networks with a robust platform that will help position us to deliver future products on the Unix operating system.” Along with the Java Edition of the Delano e-Business Interaction Suite, Delano is also shipping the Java Edition of its Component Pack for XML, which adds native support for the extensible markup language (XML) and the standard XML document formats used in business-to-business (B2B) applications. By leveraging open XML standards, the Delano Component Pack for XML, Java Edition, further increases the level of integration between Delano e-business applications and enterprise applications, include ERP and legacy systems, enabling enterprises to reduce the costs and increase the effectiveness of interacting with business partners over the Web, e-mail, wireless, and other communications channels. The Java Edition of the Delano e-Business Interaction Suite includes the Delano e-Business Application Builder, a graphical, component-based builder environment that enables the rapid development of interaction-driven applications, across sales, marketing, service, finance, operations and human resources. The Delano e-Business Interaction Server is a completely Java architected server designed to securely manage and simultaneously execute thousands of e-business applications developed using the builder. The Server provides enterprises with the robust scalability and reliability required to manage high volumes of event-driven interactions across the enterprise, including integrated support for server clustering.
