Epicor and PricewaterhouseCoopers Announce Worldwide Strategic Alliance

Alliance to provide midmarket companies with comprehensive support for automating operations and improving overall business performance

IRVINE, Calif., Sept. 28, 1999 Epicor Software Corporation, the largest provider of enterprise business performance software exclusively for midmarket companies, and PricewaterhouseCoopers, the world's largest professional services firm, today announced a global alliance focused on meeting the rising demand among medium-sized companies for enterprise resource planning (ERP) software as well as implementation and advisory services necessary to deploy the software. Many analysts see mid-sized companies as the next major growth area for enterprise business software. ERP software and business techniques help businesses to automate operations and improve overall business performance and profitability.

“Executives of mid-sized companies tell us that they want a pragmatic ERP solution that they can, with confidence, deploy quickly, at a reasonable cost, and without undue disruption of their company’s business processes,” said George Klaus, chairman, president and CEO of Epicor. “Additionally, these executives are wary of ERP software designed for larger enterprises which often require 18 months or more to implement and even longer to realize their benefits. Moreover in these situations, although initial cost estimates are often low, unexpected costs often occur throughout the implementation period. These are real issues that mid-sized companies have to contend with and they simply do not have the resources to succeed at such a project.”

Klaus continued, “Epicor’s alliance with PricewaterhouseCoopers allows us to better serve the complex needs of midmarket companies around the world that require additional business process consulting and services expertise. Our customers throughout the world will benefit from PricewaterhouseCoopers’ extensive implementation resources and broad industry expertise in addressing complex business issues, such as business process change and international expansion.”

PricewaterhouseCoopers has trained consultants and developed deployment tools specifically for mid-sized companies and for the Epicor software. PricewaterhouseCoopers’ midmarket consultants offer a full range of business expertise to support Epicor projects, including strategy, business process, e-business and technology consultants.

“We consistently help our clients deploy Epicor solutions in three to six months, without extensive retrofitting of business processes and within our initial cost estimates," said Steve DelVecchio, partner and leader of PricewaterhouseCoopers' consulting services for emerging and midmarket clients.

DelVecchio added, "Our alliance with Epicor allows us to provide our midmarket clients with what they have been asking for: software and implementation services that help them integrate their back and front office operations, foster stronger customer relationships, leverage e-business solutions and enhance market share. We were attracted to Epicor's singular focus of providing midmarket companies with sophisticated application functionality on industry-leading technology platforms, such as Microsoft Windows NT and SQL Server."

"Both Epicor and PricewaterhouseCoopers understood our specific needs and worked closely with us through every step of the implementation," said Joe DeSapio, chief financial officer of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, where PricewaterhouseCoopers managed the deployment of the Epicor solution. "With Epicor's Platinum ERA, we have a full-featured solution designed for a company our size, rather than for the Fortune 500.”

For qualifying customers Epicor offers the Epicor Up-Front Guarantee* program, which guarantees that implementation costs will not exceed the list price of the software. The Epicor Up-Front Guarantee ensures that customers will know what their total cost of implementation will be, when their implementation will be complete, and what deliverables they will receive. PricewaterhouseCoopers will participate in projects covered by the Up-Front Guarantee.

Additionally, PricewaterhouseCoopers and Epicor will develop industry-specific solution sets, offering a powerful "fit for purpose" solution in the most cost-effective and time-efficient manner. Together, Epicor and PricewaterhouseCoopers offices will develop joint marketing, sales and implementation services under the leadership of global and regional management teams. PricewaterhouseCoopers expects to dedicate over 300 consultants to providing implementation and advisory services for Epicor solutions, with over 100 consultants currently trained and delivering Epicor products to high growth start-ups and mid-sized organizations.
