BEA SYSTEMS AND CHORDIANT SOFTWARE ENTER STRATEGIC ALLIANCECompanies Enable High Performance Customer Management Solutions for Business to Consumer Enterprises; Leading European Telco Provider Validates PartnershipSAN JOSE and CUPERTINO, Calif. - September 18, 2002 - BEA Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: BEAS), the world's leading application infrastructure company, and Chordiant Software, Inc. (Nasdaq: CHRD), the leader in delivering customer management solutions for business to consumer enterprises, today announced that the two companies have entered into an alliance that includes joint marketing and sales programs, performance benchmarks and the integration of the Chordiant 5 Enterprise Platform with BEA's WebLogic Enterprise Platform. The resulting partnership gives enterprises a high performance, end-to-end, process-centric, data independent, customer management solution built on open Java™2 (J2EE) and XML standards, running on the BEA WebLogic Server. Chordiant has also recently completed an extensive performance-benchmarking program for the Chordiant 5 Foundation Server using BEA WebLogic. Server-simulated and stress-tested under real-world conditions, highlights of this effort include proven support of tens of thousands of concurrent users with sub-second user interaction response times. In addition, technicians recorded transaction rates of greater than 300,000 per hour. These results demonstrate that the Chordiant 5 Foundation Server, built on the J2EE- and XML-based JX Architecture™, is one of the highest-performing and most scalable platforms for customer management solutions. "We applaud the advancements in Chordiant 5, and welcome Chordiant as a strategic CRM partner," said Scott Edgington, vice president and general manager, global software partners, BEA Systems. "Chordiant 5 offers a flexible, high-performing architecture that uniquely leverages BEA WebLogic Server to dramatically simplify and reduce the cost of standardized application development, deployment and business integration." "Our B2C customers are demanding that we offer our world-class enterprise customer management solutions on BEA WebLogic Server," said Don Morrison, Chordiant's executive vice president of products and marketing. "The high performance and flexibility of WebLogic, combined with our JX Architecture, provides a lower cost of ownership, more rapid implementation and faster return on investment for our enterprise customers." The strength of the partnership has been validated through the work already done with Hutchison 3G, a joint customer of BEA and Chordiant. Colin Tucker, managing director of Hutchison 3G said, "As a customer of both Chordiant and BEA, I am pleased to see them working in partnership to deliver improved benefits and services to Hutchison 3G.
