Blue Pumpkin Announces Global Wins and Record Revenues in Q3

New customers include WestJet Airlines, Alltel, Zurich Financial and point to strong demand for workforce optimization

Sunnyvale, CA., October 30, 2001 – Blue Pumpkin, an industry leader in enterprise workforce optimization solutions, today announced third quarter 2001 highlights that include new funding, new return-on-investment (ROI) study results and new major US and international customers and partners.  This was also the eleventh consecutive quarter of revenue growth and the highest revenue per quarter recorded for the company.

In 3Q2001, Blue Pumpkin closed $19.2 million in new funding led by J&W Seligman & Co., with investments by CE Unterberg Towbin, Needham Capital Partners and other investors including a group from a prior funding round.  Blue Pumpkin also formalized new systems integration partnerships with Cisco, Siebel and Getronics, strengthening the company’s broad ecosystem of alliances and partners.

The quarter was also highlighted by the addition of nearly 50 leading companies to Blue Pumpkin’s customer base, with strong demand from several verticals including:

Financial: Zurich Financial Services, TCF Bank, and others
Telecom: Aether Systems, Alltel, and others
Health: Univ. of Chicago Hospital, Boehringer Ingelheim Pharma KG, and others
Travel: Go Airlines, WestJet Airlines, Alberta Motor Assoc., and others

"Our continued successes in the marketplace and in the financial community, even in this cautious economy, tell us that decision-makers are realizing how mission- critical workforce optimization really is," said Doron Aspitz, co-founder and CEO of Blue Pumpkin.  "With tighter staffing and investor demand for return-on- investment, more companies are looking to Blue Pumpkin to meet the pressing business need of doing more with less – and doing so quickly."

"We are pleased to announce that Blue Pumpkin had record revenues for the third quarter," said Nilesh Shah, EVP and CFO for Blue Pumpkin.  "This represents a 71% increase over the same period last year and continues our track-record of 11 consecutive quarters of growth.  To continue our growth in this economic climate – particularly given recent events – is a ringing endorsement of our solutions."

Blue Pumpkin impacts customer service and profitability by optimizing all the underlying workforce-related processes, including hiring, training, performance evaluation, budgeting, scheduling and more.  Its solutions ensure that the right person with the right knowledge is ready to help the customer at the right place at the right time.

"Now more than ever, businesses are spending money on proven technologies.  The reason why Blue Pumpkin has continued to sign on new customers is that it makes simple economic sense," said Bill Seawick, CMO of Blue Pumpkin.

To quantify its value, Blue Pumpkin launched its ROI Validation Program – the first of its kind in the industry – and completed its first two formal case studies this past quarter.  SGI (formerly Silicon Graphics) saw a return-on-investment of 3,000% in the first year alone, and Borders Group enjoyed a 53% increase in agent productivity and a 33% reduction in expenses.

Other Q3 highlights include the appointment of Ray G. Coutermarsh – formerly a national partner at KPMG with 20 years of technology expertise – to the position of vice president of its Professional Services Organization.  Blue Pumpkin also continued to win industry accolades to complement its customer confidence: at the International Call Center Management Expo in Chicago, Blue Pumpkin received a Best of Show award for its Director - Enterprise workforce optimization solution.

"Our recent wins can also be attributed to the ease-of-integration of our solutions.  We plug-and-play with systems already in place, since we partner with leading vendors such as Siebel, Cisco, Nortel, Siemens and Kana," continued Seawick.  "We also work closely with our customers following the sale to provide not only on-demand technology support but also continuing education on best practices by offering efficiency consultation services through Blue Pumpkin’s subsidiary, Coleman Consulting."
