Veteran Sales Executive Joins Astea

Reed to Set Sights on Market Share as Tech Spending Slump Offers New Opportunities

HORSHAM, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 15, 2002--Astea International (NASDAQ:ATEA - News), a global supplier of Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software, has named John Reed as vice president of North American sales. As a senior executive, Reed will add his industry expertise to Astea's sales program to help drive the company's revenues and market share.

Reed brings to Astea a strong background in sales management, most recently honed at DataSweep, Inc., i2 Technologies and Gensym Corporation. Reed has received numerous awards for sales achievements and sales leadership by repeatedly exceeding sales objectives.

In his position at Astea, Reed will lead the Company's sales operations. His efforts will be complemented by Lynn Ledwith the newly appointed vice president of marketing, who joined the company from Hewlett Packard, with prior marketing positions at Bluestone Software, Inc. and Unisys Corporation.

According to Zack Bergreen, chairman and CEO of Astea, "John is the latest of several new additions to our senior management team, all of whom are motivated by the many challenges the current business environment offers. Reed holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Penn State University and a Master in Business Administration from Temple University.
