Jeeves Solutions and One Economy Partner to Empower Low-Income Families with Internet Self-Service on the “Beehive”

Complete package of technology, tools, access, training and content now turbocharged by Jeeves’ natural language technology

EMERYVILLE, Calif., August 27, 2002 – – Jeeves SolutionsSM, the enterprise software division of Ask Jeeves®, Inc., (NASDAQ: ASKJ) and One Economy Corporation, today announced a partnership to help governments serve low-income households with Jeeves’ advanced natural language technology. This joint effort offers the same enterprise self-service software used by some of the world’s largest corporations, including Ford, Office Depot and Hewlett-Packard, to local municipalities to serve their low- income citizens. This unprecedented partnership will enable municipalities to cost-effectively deliver services online to low-income households through One Economy’s bilingual national consumer Web site, www.thebeehive.org.

One Economy and Jeeves Solutions will also jointly market JeevesOne, Jeeves Solutions natural language software solution, as the de facto self-service standard to all municipalities served by Beehive sites. One Economy, a national nonprofit corporation, serves low-income households by partnering with companies and municipalities to bring technology to affordable housing residents. Through the Internet, One Economy works with municipalities to develop Beehive sites with local content that connects residents to specific local resources in  areas such as health and social services, jobs and schools. One Economy has also selected Ask Jeeves’ Web property, Ask.comÒ, as the primary search engine for all Beehive users’ Internet-wide searches.

“Digital technology has the power to transform lives, yet the people most in need of this technology lack access,” said Rey Ramsey, CEO of One Economy. “We work with companies like Cisco and AOL Time Warner to provide Internet access, but providing access is only the first step.  This unique partnership with Jeeves allows us to provide the most meaningful content to the right communities at the right time.”

“With this partnership, we join JPMorgan Chase Foundation, FannieMae Foundation, Cisco, Hewlett-Packard and others to bring benefits of technology to low-income municipalities,” said Scott Lomond, vice president of alliances for Jeeves Solutions. “It’s exciting to see corporations and non-profits join forces to make technology work better for governments and the citizens they serve. We look forward to helping municipalities served by the Beehive so more people can benefit from intuitive access to fast, relevant government information.”
JeevesOne will empower Beehive users to quickly find answers to questions about jobs, money, health, education and family. For example, users can ask questions using their own terms and get accurate information through Jeeves’ easy-to-use and intuitive self-service experience. Because JeevesOne learns from every question asked, municipalities will gain unprecedented insight into what their citizens are asking for on the Beehive and can act accordingly. This allows governments to deliver more targeted and nimble online resources that will increase both user and government efficiencies.
“Millions of people turn to Ask Jeeves everyday to get answers to their questions, whether it be at Ask.com for Internet-wide search, or through our enterprise self-service software installed on corporate Web sites,” continued Lomond. “These same dynamic solutions will now be available to families in affordable housing communities through the Beehive. This will dramatically increase both the accessibility, quality and speed of information they receive online.”
