Peppers and Rogers Group Appoints Privacy Expert Dr. Larry Ponemon to Lead Strategy for Growing Privacy Practice

Privacy Standards Take Front Seat in Building Stakeholder Value

Managing customer information and dodging the land mines associated with privacy preferences, policy development, compliance, and regulatory requirements has become one of the most critical components in an organizations’ ability to operate. It has also created a unique opportunity for strategy consulting firm, Peppers and Rogers Group, to appoint Lawrence A. Ponemon, Ph.D., Founder of the Ponemon Institute, as Partner and advisor for the firm’s Privacy Practice.

Ponemon will maintain his role as Chairman of the Ponemon Institute, which is a “think tank” dedicated to advancing privacy and ethical information management practices for business and government. The subsequent synergy between the Ponemon Institute and Peppers and Rogers Group provides access to objective research, education and verification methods that will enable Peppers and Rogers Group to bring an unprecedented level of thought leadership to clients around the world.

Ponemon is a critically acclaimed author, lecturer, spokesman and pioneer in the development of privacy auditing, privacy risk management and the ethical information management process. He has extensive experience in establishing self- regulatory frameworks for managing privacy compliance in the United States and abroad, and has served as an appointed member of the Advisory Committee for Online Privacy for the United States Federal Trade Commission.

Previously, Ponemon was the CEO of the Privacy Council, and was the global managing partner for compliance risk management of PricewaterhouseCoopers (where he founded the privacy practice). For more than 20 years, he has consulted with leading global organizations on corporate governance, business ethics, privacy regulation, data protection, and ethical information management.

Peppers and Rogers Group has advocated sound privacy policies for businesses since the company’s founding nearly ten years ago.  The firm’s over-riding strategy is grounded in the belief that the customer is the key stakeholder in a company’s business, and that without the loyalty and trust of that customer, an organization’s ability to operate is threatened. Protecting the customer’s privacy is the surest way to gain and sustain such trust.

Ponemon will provide council for Peppers and Rogers Group’s global privacy practice, which has become a highly valued element of client engagements. He will aid in the ongoing development of privacy and personalization-based client deliverables, such as ethical information management programs, privacy surveys and benchmarking projects, and will serve as resident expert on privacy compliance issues.  Ponemon will also serve as editorial director for the firm’s newest online publication, Inside1to1: Privacy, (www.1to1.com/privacy) launched in April 2002.

“The smartest companies, many of which are already practicing CRM, are recognizing the need to modify their activities to protect customer privacy,” says Steve Skinner, President and CEO of Peppers and Rogers Group. “Moreover when companies position themselves and their brands as worthy of consumer trust, sound privacy policies can translate into revenue. Larry’s vast knowledge and vision in the privacy arena is unsurpassed. His depth of expertise and strong character have earned him a stellar reputation among his peers. We are very pleased to have Larry on our team as our firm continues in an exciting growth cycle.”
