Some years ago, Sandra Bullock starred in The Net, a film about a reclusive computer systems analyst who, as she tries out a new program, is caught up in an internet nightmare. When the program allows her to access some of the world's most sensitive databases, she then becomes embroiled in a battle to regain her lost electronic identity.
When
I saw the movie, I remember thinking, "Hollywood certainly has a way of taking a plausible idea and creating real entertainment!" At the time, the premise seemed a little far-fetched; it was playing off what were then barely emerging concerns about data access via the internet.
